Cases of corruption, cooked audit books, rogue banking practices have become all too common in many developing countries. This rampant theft and misuse of resources is often perpetrated by employees of both the Private and Public sector. Despite the existence of laws on integrity, ethics and codes of conduct within organizations, the problem is still persistent.
Such display of extreme workplace deviance by employees in both the public and private sector brings into question the legitimacy of the selection, promotion and training procedures in use in the public and private sectors. Indeed, such processes are often plagued with corruption and patronage resulting in organizations hiring a workforce that has elements which are lacking in integrity.
Failure to take into consideration the character of a potential recruit can have dire consequences for an organization including loss of revenues, damage to property, law suits, reputational damage, and poor organization outputs to list but a few. Pervasive workplace deviance in the public and private sector points to a selection and training procedure that is not able to credibly assess a candidate’s competency.
This paper therefore proposes the inclusion of psychometric tests and knowledge management for Human Resource Management in organizations as a solution to the problem. These tests are computer based and are better placed at accessing capability compared to interviews which are sometimes subjective and not able to probe into the character of a candidate.
The solution offered by Safemark Software Limited contains a comprehensive package consisting of psychometric tests, which evaluate a potential recruit’s personality traits and job placement; a knowledge management module to help retain institutional memory, tracking and delivery of training to employees; and a case management module for internal investigations and compliance testing.
